Function
Diffuse the lung and dispel phlegm, calm wheezing and stop cough.
Traditional indications
The lung is affected by cold pathogen, with cough and upward qi, chest and diaphragm distention and fullness, rigidity and tension of the nape and back, heavy voice and nasal congestion, dizziness and blurred vision, phlegm-qi not flowing smoothly, and wheezing sounds.
Modifications
Phlegm-qi not flowing smoothly: add Lycium root bark and Platycodon root.
-- Cough with vomiting and asthmatic cough: add Anemarrhena and Sichuan Fritillaria.
-- Nasal congestion with heavy voice: add Saposhnikovia and Mint.
Cautions
Although this formula contains sweet-cold White mulberry root bark, the formula as a whole is warm in nature; therefore it is contraindicated for those with phlegm-heat cough and wheezing.
