金匱要略

When there is cough with a floating pulse, Hou Po Ma Huang Tang governs it. When the pulse is deep, Ze Qi Tang governs it. (Jin Gui Yao Lue (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet))

Pinellia (Banxia) half sheng, Zishen five liang, Zeqi three jin (with five dou of east-flowing water, decoct to obtain one dou five sheng), fresh ginger five liang, Baiqian five liang, licorice, Huang Qin, ginseng, cassia twig each three liang. The above nine ingredients, coarsely chopped, put into the Zeqi juice, decoct to obtain five sheng, take five ge warm, finishing by night. (Shang Han Za Bing Lun)

Drain water and expel rheum, unblock yang, stop cough and calm panting.

Water-rheum retention internally, with cough and a deep pulse.

Severe heart yang deficiency, tongue body pale and enlarged with teeth marks, pulse wiry and tight: add prepared aconite:15, dried ginger:15, Poria:20. -- Yang deficiency with water diffusion pattern, tongue body pale and enlarged with teeth marks, pulse deep, wiry and tight: combine with Zhenwu Tang. -- Able only to sit and not lie down, cough and panting worse when lying down: combine with Tingli Dazao Xiefei Tang. -- Suspended rheum pattern (lung cancer, severe pleural effusion), symptoms include cough, chest pain, chest tightness, hypochondriac pain (pulling pain on moving the body), general weakness, tongue pale with teeth marks, white greasy coating, pulse deep and thin: add Xiangfu:15, Xuanfuhua:15, Suzi:15, Chenpi:15, Poria:15, Zhuling:30, Zexie:30, Coix seed:60.
