Original text
Jaundice, abdominal fullness, difficult and red urination, spontaneous sweating: this is exterior harmony and interior excess; it should be purged; Dahuang Xiaoshi Tang is appropriate. (Jin Gui Yao Lue (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet))
Composition
Rhubarb, Phellodendron, niter 4 liang each, gardenia 15 pieces. The above four ingredients: with 6 sheng of water, boil down to 2 sheng; remove the dregs; add niter; boil again down to 1 sheng; take in one dose. (Shang Han Za Bing Lun)
Preparation
Finely chop the above; with 2 ge of water, decoct to 1 ge; remove the dregs; add niter and dissolve it; divide into three doses a day, taken cold. In the Mai Jing, this formula is called Dahuang Huangbai Zhizi Mangxiao Tang. It uses mirabilite, not niter; my Japanese predecessors also did so, therefore I followed and also used mirabilite.
