Original text
When burning-needle needling is used to induce sweating, if the needling site is affected by cold and a nodule rises and becomes red, ben tun will necessarily occur. If qi surges from the lower abdomen upward to the heart, moxa each nodule on top with one cone, and give Gui Zhi Jia Gui Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction Plus Cinnamon), with an additional two liang of cinnamon. (Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage))
Composition
Cinnamon twig five liang, peony root three liang, licorice two liang (honey-fried), fresh ginger three liang, jujube twelve pieces. The above five ingredients: with seven sheng of water, decoct over a gentle fire to obtain three sheng; remove dregs and take one sheng warm. (Shang Han Za Bing Lun)
Preparation
The above five ingredients: with seven sheng of water, decoct to obtain three sheng; remove dregs and take one sheng warm.
Form
湯劑
Function
Warm and unblock heart yang; calm the surging and descend rebellious qi.
Traditional indications
In Taiyang disease, burning-needle needling is mistakenly used to induce sweating, causing heart yang deficiency; cold qi from the lower jiao surges upward, leading to ben tun, with qi surging from the lower abdomen up to the heart and chest.
Cautions
If 'Gui Zhi Tang plus cinnamon bark' were used instead for this formula pattern, the effect would be better.
