Thousand-Gold Reed Stem Decoction

-- Treats pulmonary abscess, with vomiting of pus-like matter. (Wai Tai Mi Yao)

Reed stem 2 sheng; Coix seed half sheng; Peach kernel 50 pieces; Gua Ban half sheng (Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang).

Cut into pieces, place into reed juice, boil to obtain 2 sheng; take 1 sheng, then take again; one should vomit pus-like matter (modern usage: boil nine bowls of water down to three bowls; take one bowl warm after each of the three meals).

湯劑

Clear the lungs and Resolve Phlegm, expel stasis and discharge pus.

Pulmonary abscess. Coughing and spitting foul-smelling yellow phlegm, pus, and blood; the skin and flesh over the chest are scaly; there is dull pain, worse when coughing; dry mouth and throat; red tongue with yellow coating; slippery and rapid pulse. Currently used for lung abscess, pneumonia, acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis with infection, whooping cough, etc., that belong to lung heat.

For pulmonary abscess where pus has not yet formed: add Houttuynia:30. For pus already formed: add Platycodon:30, Licorice:30.

The medicinals in this formula are mostly slippery and lubricating and have the action of invigorating blood and removing stasis; therefore, it should be used with caution in pregnant women.
