丹溪心法

Composition

Earth-fried Bai Zhu 3 liang, fried Bai Shao 2 liang, fried Chen Pi 1 liang 5 qian, Fang Feng 1 liang. (Yi Xue Zheng Zhuan / Correct Transmission of Medical Learning)

Preparation

Finely cut the above, divide into eight doses; decoct in water or take as pills. (Modern usage: make as a Decoction, decoct in water and take; dosage reduced proportionally according to the original formula.)

Function

Tonify the Spleen and soften the Liver, eliminate dampness and stop diarrhea.

Traditional indications

Abdominal pain and diarrhea due to disharmony of the Liver and Spleen.

Modifications

For chronic diarrhea: add Sheng Ma. -- For yellow greasy tongue coating: add Huang Lian and Mu Xiang.

Cautions

It should be differentiated from painful diarrhea due to food damage; if abdominal pain is due to food damage, this formula is not suitable.
