Composition
Ginkgo seed 21 pieces, fried until yellow; Ephedra and Pinellia, ginger-processed; Coltsfoot flower 3 qian; White mulberry root bark, honey-fried; Perilla seed 2 qian; Apricot seed, tips removed; Scutellaria 1.5 qian; Licorice 1 qian; add ginger and decoct. (Yi Fang Ji Jie)
Preparation
Three cups of water, decoct to two cups, divide into two doses; each dose one cup, no ginger, regardless of time, take slowly (modern usage: decoct in water and take).
Form
湯劑
Function
Diffuse and descend Lung Qi, Clear heat and Resolve Phlegm.
Traditional indications
Asthma pattern. Wheezing cough with rapid breathing, thick yellow Phlegm, distention and stuffiness in the chest and diaphragm, or fever and aversion to cold, yellow greasy tongue coating, slippery rapid pulse.
Modifications
Wind-cold asthma: add Cinnamon twig: 10. -- Phlegm and drool cough and asthma: add Poria: 10, Tangerine peel: 6.
Cautions
1. If there is no exterior pattern, mainly use [the method of] diffusing the Lung and stabilizing wheezing; Ephedra may be used in reduced dosage. 2. This formula is designed for wind-cold externally binding and Phlegm-heat internally accumulating, with a predominance of heat pattern. If there is no internal Phlegm-heat, or Qi deficiency with weak pulse, or long-standing asthma with Lung and Kidney Yin deficiency, it is not suitable to use.
