Preparation

Form
湯劑
Function
Enrich yin and soothe the liver.
Traditional indications
Liver and Kidney Yin deficiency with liver qi not flowing freely, causing chest, epigastric, and hypochondriac pain, vomiting of sour water, dry throat and mouth, red tongue with little coating, and a thready, rapid, or wiry, deficient pulse.
Cautions
Because the formula emphasizes tonification, although it can move formless Qi, it cannot eliminate tangible pathogens, and many medicinals are sweet and cloying; therefore, for those with retained Phlegm and accumulated fluids, white greasy tongue coating, and a deep string-like pulse, it is not suitable for use.
