Cinnamon Twig Decoction Without Peony Plus Aconite

-- Taiyang disease, after purgation, with an irregular rapid pulse and chest fullness, Guizhi Decoction Without Shaoyao is indicated. If there is slight aversion to cold, Guizhi Decoction Without Shaoyao Plus Fuzi is indicated. (Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage))

Gui Zhi three liang, remove skin; Gan Cao two liang, roasted; Sheng Jiang three liang, cut; Da Zao twelve pieces, split; Fu Zi, prepared, remove skin, break into eight pieces, one piece. The above five ingredients, with seven sheng of water, boil down to three sheng, remove the dregs, take one sheng warm. Originally called Guizhi Tang; now remove Shaoyao and add Fu Zi; rest and recuperate as in the previous method. (Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases)

Release the muscles and dispel wind, and also warm the channels and restore yang.

Taiyang disease, after purgation, with an irregular rapid pulse, chest fullness, and slight aversion to cold.

For chest impediment: add Xiebai 10, Gualou 20.

If there is already Jiexiong syndrome, or chest yang depression without Taiyang zhongfeng, Yin deficiency with internal heat, or exuberant heat, it is contraindicated. During medication, avoid sour and astringent substances such as Wumei. When using this formula, pay attention to dosage adjustment; do not arbitrarily change the amount used; it must closely match the pattern and mechanism. In specific application of this formula, medicinals may be appropriately added or subtracted according to the manifestations of the disease pattern. When decocting the medicinals, it is best to first decoct Fu Zi for about 10-20 minutes, then add the other medicinals, to reduce the toxicity of Fu Zi.
