-- For chest impediment with inability to lie down, and heart pain penetrating the back, Gualou Xiebai Banxia Tang governs it. (Jin Gui Yao Lue (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet))

Composition

Gua Lou 1 piece; Xie Bai 3 liang; Ban Xia half jin; white liquor 1 dou. The above four ingredients are decocted together; take 4 sheng; take 1 sheng warm, three times daily. (Shang Han Za Bing Lun)

Function

Relax the chest and calm wheezing.

Traditional indications

Relatively severe turbid phlegm in chest impediment, with chest pain penetrating the back and back pain penetrating the heart, cough, spitting, wheezing and inability to lie down peacefully, white greasy tongue coating, and deep, string-like pulse.

Modifications

For severe stabbing pain in the chest, palpitations, and insomnia: combine with Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang.

Cautions

Avoid mutton and maltose.
